S.T.A.R. After-School Club Program

At our S.T.A.R. After-School Club program, we provide children with a safe and nurturing environment for them to do what they do best – be S.T.A.R.S. (Students, Takin' an Active Role Scholastically). They have the opportunity to play, relax, and enjoy a light yet healthy lunch and snack before classes begin. The philosophy behind our after-school program is to provide a balance between structure and flexibility while simultaneously helping them to further explore who they are and what they like to do. To do this, we support them in their efforts to define their “YOU” factors - self-esteem, confidence, creativity, humor, compassion, empathy, responsibility, and initiative. Our after-school program runs Monday through Thursday at our New Horizon center.

The goal of our After-School Club program is the academic improvement of our scholars. We meet children where they are in their reading and help them to learn to read at their reading grade level and beyond. Every afternoon, our scholars participate in our after-school program can engage in Ministry Mondays, Literacy Workshop, and Homework Help.

Kidz Ministry Club

Ministry Mondays: For Ministry Mondays, we partner with our friends over at ARISE2Read to share the love of Christ through dynamic Bible lessons, meaningful fun songs, and life-changing Scripture memory, children are able to learn about God and develop meaningful relationships with other Christians, God seekers like yourself.
SEL Mondays: For SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Mondays, we partner with our friends over at Moxie Way to engage in group activities and discussions that encourages our scholars to focus their mindset to develop healthy identities and ways to manage emotions to achieve personal and collective goals.

Daily Lunch

Lunch: Every Monday through Friday, we provide every scholar that enters our center with a healthy meal and snack. Our meals are provided by YMCA of Memphis & The Mid-South and consists of a nutritious meal complete with fresh fruits and vegetables, snack, milk, and juice.

S.T.A.R. After-School Club

Academic Enrichment: Every Tuesday through Thursday, we engage our wonderful scholars in classroom, group, and independent reading lessons utilizing the Book Nook Learning application. During this time, our students are encouraged to participate with our Reading Guides in reading lessons for 45 minutes per day to help them enhance their reading skills.
Homework Help: We provide a study style environment that encourages children to think beyond the limitations of “I don’t know how to do it” and “I can’t do it.” As we work side by side with them encouraging them to utilize their thinking and helping them to believe in themselves.
